Newbie Filipino retail investors often face several barriers when trying to invest in the local stock market.
First, they need to physically submit several requirements, including filled-out application forms and valid IDs, in order to open an account. This process is manual and often takes up a lot of time. Minimum deposit amounts, which start at ₱5,000 and can reach as high as ₱20,000, are also inaccessible to the average Filipino.
Second, current retail investment platforms can be cumbersome to use. Orders tend to be slowly executed and user interfaces are cluttered with charts and financial jargon. As a result, newbie retail investors are demotivated to continue investing their money.
Finally, retail investors feel overwhelmed when learning about investing for the first time, as they need to familiarize themselves with a range of technical terms, which can take time to get accustomed to. While there is already a wealth of educational content available online, such as YouTube videos, these can be difficult to engage with due to their long and often monotonous nature.
Seeing the gap in the market, the founders of Tradely wanted to create a mobile app that would make it easier for first-time Filipino retail investors to invest in the stock market, regardless of capital, location, technical know-how, or prior experience. To test this idea, conceptual mobile app screens, along with a landing page where interested parties can join a waitlist, was created.
